There will be all kinds of cultural events for the whole family at Tafwyl this year; with the biggest names in Welsh literature, theatre & arts coming together to package an exciting schedule of theatre evenings, poetry events, scripting workshops and guest speakers. Here’s a taste of the events:
DIRTY PROTEST THEATRE YN CYFLWYNO…PROTEST FUDR
One night. One location. One provocative theme – In or out? Six new short playful plays. This is the fifth time for the Dirty Protest gang to arrange a Welsh evening as part of Tafwyl and again this year there will be plays by five exciting playwrights as well as a playwright popping their cherry and writing for the first time!

CWMNI THEATR SPECTACLE PRESENTS ‘SPESIAL’ @ BARA MENYN
A chance to see ‘Special’ – Spectacle Theatre’s new bilingual play on friendship, bullying and the feeling of belonging. Before the drama there’s an opportunity to wander around the eclectic mix of Vintage and Retro fashion, music, art, jewellery and home-ware stores as The Castle Emporium holds a late night shopping evening.

THEATR BARA CAWS presents ‘ALLAN O DIWN’ (Out of Tune) by Emyr ‘Himyrs’ Roberts
A one man show by one of Wales’s best impersonators, capturing perfectly his story from being a troubled 6th form pupil, ‘out of tune’ with his surroundings, to establishing the iconic pop Group, y Ficar, before finally realising his dream of becoming a professional performer. This highly entertaining production combines live music, parodies and impersonations, with the odd satirical comment on the Welsh rock scene. An English ‘precis’ is available.

On the eve of Tafwyl Fair the Bragdy’r Beidd crew return to one of the city’s most exciting clubs, the Columba Club, with their lively mix of poetry and live music. Award winning poet Elis Dafydd will be reading some of his new poems, as well as Bragdy’r Beirdd’s resident poets. Also performing will be the legendary singer Iwcs.

Literature Wales and Academi Hywel Teifi present a series of activities, sessions and literary workshops for children, young people and adults of all ages – many of the sessions with a Cardiff theme to them.
For our little book worms there will be a Storytime and Songs session with Anni Llyn, Storytime with Atebol, and a session on the popular children’s series of books Na, Nel!
Amongst the talented authors and poets taking part in discussions are Aneurin Karadog, T. James Jones, Manon Rhys, Alan Llwyd and Christine James.
To top the whole weekend off on Sunday afternoon Radio Cymru will be presenting, Talwrn y Beirdd.
