The last two years have flown past for Candelas as they’ve been gigging non-stop all over Wales. The song ‘Rhedeg i Paris’ (which was recorded for Radio Cymru’s Euro 2016 campaign) took the band to a “whole new level” said Osian their frontman, with allmost a hundred and fifty thousand views on the youtube video.
They are now busy recording their third album which will be out the beginning of Summer 2018. “We have never worked this hard on an album before so we can’t wait to play these songs live. As this will be our third record, we want everything, from the music to the cover to be just perfect”.
The band formed in 2002 when some of the members were students in Bangor University, and they quickly made a name for themselves as one of the most exciting and popular Welsh language bands on the circuit, with catchy and memorable songs such as ‘Eldon Terrace’ and ‘Goleuadau Llundain’.
Having gained quite a following in those early years and recording a session for BBC Radio Cymru, the album ‘Goleuadau Llundain’ was released in 2005, followed by the Christmas single ‘Rhagfyr o Hyd’ in 2006.
After several years of performing at Wales’ biggest festivals, they took a break in 2010 when Dan took the opportunity to concentrate on his solo project, and released the album ‘Tro Ar Fyd’ in 2009. He also had a stint in ‘The Commitments’ in London’s West End, and appeared in the film ‘Muppets Most Wanted’.
The offer to get back together for a gig at Saith Seren in Wrexham at the beginning of 2017 proved too much of a temptation, so with a fresh sound and energy the band released the single ‘Mesur y Dyn’ before having a busy summer of gigging, with more to follow in 2018 and beyond…
If there’s one event you shouldn’t miss this year, the appearance of the bubbling, dynamic, joyous Jamie Smith’s MABON is it! With nearly 20 years of performing behind them; with shows all across the world at some of the world’s finest festivals and venues, this Celtic/World music ‘festival in a band’ is primed to make you forget the dreary and despondent times.
The band of five consummate musicians has been hailed as one of the UK’s most accomplished, and over recent years has become ‘famed for brilliant live shows’ (Guardian), ‘unmatched by their peers’ (Songlines) and have ‘a fearsome reputation as a live band… stratospheric’ (Financial Times).
Along with a memorable musical treat and feel good fun, you are invited to share in the recording process for their new album which is being recorded live at this spring’s concerts – for release in the autumn. Come and be something special, somewhere special!

Vrï are a brand new trio to represent Wales and its music in the fast-evolving world of ‘chamber-folk’. Bringing together the experience of Jordan Price Williams (cello) Patrick Rimes (violin, viola) and Aneirin Jones (violin) they play tunes and songs from the Celtic nations and beyond, attempting to combine the energy of a rowdy pub session with the style and finesse of the Viennese string quartet.
CADNO is a local band – up the Diff! They create unique pop melodies that mix soft psychedelic sounds with elements of folk music and riffs that sit somewhere between 60’s pop and contemporary indie rock which can be heard on their self-titled EP, which has been recently nominated for best EP in Gwobrau’r Selar.
